I want to take you back to where this all started.
Before the offers, courses, podcast, digital products, launches, and systems, there was a blog, a tiny audience, no email list, and a desire to figure out how to get paid to be myself.
Being back in Bali has made me reflect on that journey in a new way. Sixteen years ago, I was a digital nomad living out of a suitcase, building from scratch after walking away from a tech startup. I had no real plan, but I had curiosity, a love for storytelling, and a desire to help other women see what was possible.
That blog eventually became interviews, an email list, digital products, workshops, courses, global events, and a business that gave me more freedom than I could have imagined.
And if I was starting over today, I would still begin the same way: with what I know, what people are asking for, and how my experience can help someone move forward.
That’s what this episode is about.
The real meaning of getting paid to be you in a practical, profitable, and deeply aligned way. I’m sharing how my first offers came to life, how one blog series became an entire offer ecosystem, why sales while you sleep are not sleazy, and why your business should support your life, not take over it.
What You’ll Learn:
- How I went from leaving a tech startup with no real plan to building an online business around my voice, experience, and ideas
- Why starting with a blog, podcast, or simple content platform can still be one of the most powerful ways to build trust and create opportunities
- How listening to your audience can show you exactly what to create, sell, and package next
- Why my first major digital product worked, even though the content started as free blog posts
- How one offer can become an entire offer ecosystem through ebooks, audio, workshops, courses, and coaching
- Why selling while you sleep is not about being sleazy or passive, but about creating value that people can access without needing your live time
- Why revenue is not the real measure of business success, and what you should be looking at instead
- How to think about profit, freedom, and lifestyle when designing the business you actually want
Key Takeaways:
**You Don’t Need to Start With a Perfect Business Plan. You Need to Start Paying Attention.**When I began, I didn’t have a polished offer, a huge audience, or a clear path. I had a blog, curiosity, and people telling me what they needed help with. That was enough to begin. Sometimes your audience is already showing you what to create, but you have to be willing to listen and act on it.
**Your Lived Experience Can Become a Real Offer.**The things you have figured out, overcome, tested, built, or lived through can become incredibly valuable to someone who is a few steps behind you. Getting paid to be you does not mean selling your personality. It means packaging your knowledge, process, perspective, and experience into something that genuinely helps someone else.
**One Idea Can Become an Entire Offer Ecosystem.**My Build Your Online Business content started as a blog series. Then it became an ebook, an audiobook, a workshop, a world tour, and eventually a bigger online course. You do not always need a brand new idea. Sometimes the smartest move is to take one strong idea and deliver it in different formats for different people and learning styles.
**Sales While You Sleep Are Really About Value That Keeps Working.**There is something amazing about waking up and seeing that someone bought something you created because it helped them. It is not about tricking people or making money for doing nothing. It is about building something useful once, then allowing it to serve people without requiring you to be live, available, or constantly working.
**Profit Matters More Than Revenue.**Making $20,000 a month sounds impressive until you realize the business might be expensive, exhausting, and barely profitable. The better question is not just how much revenue you are making, but how much you actually keep, how much time it takes, and whether the business supports the life you want.
**Your Business Should Serve Your Life, Not Consume It.**Freedom is not just about working from anywhere or making money online. It is about designing a business that gives you space, energy, health, creativity, relationships, and meaning. If the business looks successful but takes over your whole life, it may be time to rethink the model.
